Overview & History
The Case IH 4230 was built from 1994 through 1997 in Doncaster, England. Part of the 4200 utility series, it replaced the Case IH 895 and preceded the Case IH CX90. In its final production year, it sold for US$ 30,000.
The 4230 was available in 2WD or 4WD and came in either two-post ROPS standard, though a cab with air-conditioning was offered as well. It featured a 4.4-litre, four-cylinder Case diesel engine, which had 84 hp gross power at 2400 rated RPM and can give 72 hp at PTO. the engine also had liquid cooling, dry air cleaner, and an optional thermostat or ether pre-heating. The fuel capacity was 75.7 litres for ROPS and 112 litres for the cab.
This tractor was fitted with draft-and-position control for the three-point hitch and had a rear lift capacity rating of 1,662 kilogrammes. It was also equipped with a hydraulic wet disc clutch and an independent rear PTO that can do 540 rear RPM. A 540/1000 rear RPM was available as an option. The ROPS model had a mechanical differential lock, while the cab had an electro-hydraulic differential lock.
The 4230 also had hydrostatic power steering and hydraulic wet disc brakes. Its hydraulics system was an open-centre type with a capacity of 34.1 litres for the 2WD and 36.7 litres for the cab. It had up to three valves and gave a total flow of 60.9 litres-per-minute (69.6 lpm optional) at 2,500 psi. It had a negative electrical ground and an alternator charging system with 45 amps (or 65 amps for cab). The tractor also had one 12-volt battery with either 650 or 810 cold-cranking amps.
As for dimensions, the 2WD variant used 7.50-16 sized front tyres and 16.9-28 rear tyres and had a wheelbase measuring 225 centimetres. Meanwhile, the 4WD can fit 8.3-24 front-tyre size and 16.9-28 rear-tyre size and had a 223-centimetre wheelbase. The ROPS model weighed 4,604 kilogrammes, while the cab weighed 5,499 kilogrammes. Lastly, the front tread ranged from 121 to 195 centimetres depending on the variant.
The Case IH 4230 tractor will do everything the operator wants it to do. The only common complaint it gets would be how it tends to be hot inside the cab, despite having air conditioning, especially during the summer.
