Overview & History
The Massey Ferguson 275 (MF 275) is a two-wheel-drive tractor that was built from 1975 to 1983 as part of the manufacturer’s 200 series. It replaced the 175 and was then replaced by the 290, and was sold for US$ 21,000 on its last production year.
This tractor was based on the Perkins AD4.248 engine, which had 4.1-litre capacity, four cylinders, liquid cooling, 101-millimetre cylinder bore, and 127-millimetre piston stroke. It had a compression ratio rating of 16:1, 67 HP output power on PTO, 60 HP output at the drawbar, 72 HP engine power, and 1400 torque RPM, making the tractor good enough for loading work.
The engine’s other features were an air cleaner that was either oil bath or dual dry element, high-capacity fuel filter, 70-litre fuel capacity, 7.6-litre oil capacity, and 10.4-litre coolant capacity.
The MF 275’s transmission was either an eight-forward and two-rear gearbox system or a 12-forward and four-reverse Multi-Power partial power shift system. The former had four speeds, plus reverse, in each of the high and low ranges, and the eighth gear can run up to 30.7 kilometres per hour. Meanwhile, the latter transmission had three speeds in each of the two ranges plus a two-speed power shift, and the 12th gear can do up to 30.6 kilometres per hour.
This tractor’s hydraulics system featured 30.3-litre capacity, up to two valves, 3,002.3 psi pressure, and a pump flow capacity of 17 lpm. The 275’s three-point hitch lift capacity was 1,859 kilogrammes. It was equipped with hydrostatic power-assisted steering, differential lock that was operated by foot-pedal, and differential hydraulic wet disc brakes. It also came with a two-post ROPS, but a canopy was offered as an option.
The 275 can be equipped with a MF 236 front loader. Its rear PTO was either live or independent and can run at 540 RPM. Its charging system was an alternator that charged at 37 amps. It had one 12-volt, 180 amp-hour battery.
As for dimensions, this tractor was 360 centimetres long and 198 centimetres wide. It weighed 2,998 kilogrammes and had a wheelbase measuring 208 centimetres. It can fit several front and rear tyre sizes, depending on the model (row-crop and low-profile). The row-crop model was 170 centimetres high and had 46-centimetre ground clearance, 132- to 193-centimetre front tread, and 142- to 228-centimetre rear tread.
Meanwhile, the low-profile model was 157 centimetres high and had ground clearance of 37 centimetres, front tread measuring from 121 to 182 centimetres, and rear tread from 139 to 220 centimetres.
Overall, the Massey Ferguson 275 tractor has plenty of power and good fuel consumption, and it can still start easily without problems.
