Overview & History
The Case IH 5130 was one of the first tractors launched under the Maxxum series. This range was back then a new group of under-100 horsepower tractors that were flexible enough to be used in row-crop, loader, and orchard work. The 5130 was produced in Neuss, Germany from 1990 to 1991 before being replaced by the Case IH 5230. In its final production year, this model was sold for US$ 31,000.
The 5130 was equipped with a 5.9-litre, six-cylinder CDC diesel engine that can do 99 hp at a rated RPM of 2200. Its PTO rating was 86 hp and its idle RPM ranged from 850 to 2,355. It had liquid cooling and a dry air cleaner. Its bore measured 102 millimetres, while the stroke was 120 millimetres. Its fuel capacity was 135.1 litres, though a 170.3-litre capacity was available as an option. Lastly, the engine required oil and coolant change every 250 hours of operation.
This model had a II-type rear hitch that can lift 3,492 kilogrammes using a lower link control. There was also an optional front hitch of the same type that can lift 2,358 kilogrammes.
The 5130 tractor was available with three transmission options: the first was a 16-speed fully synchronised system, which was composed of four speeds in each of the four ranges. This allowed synchronised shifting between speeds and ranges using the hydraulic wet disc clutch. Power shuttle shifting was done with the column-mounted left-hand reverser lever.
The second option was a 16-speed partial power shift type, which allowed power shifting between speeds in the same range. Meanwhile, the ranges were synchronised using the clutch. The last one was a 24-speed creeper, which could be added to either of the first two transmissions. This system gave an additional sixteen forward and reverse gears.
The 5130 was fitted with an independent rear PTO that ran at 540/1000 RPM. During its production year, it was available either as a 2WD or 4WD mechanical front drive. It had an electrically activated differential lock, power steering, and hydraulic wet disc brakes. This tractor came with either a two-post fixed ROPS–which either had a canopy or was foldable–or a cab with air-conditioning.
As for dimensions, the 2WD model was 433 centimetres long and had standard front tyres sized 10.00-16, a 263-centimetre wheelbase, and a 56-centimetre front axle clearance. Meanwhile, the 4WD was 442 centimetres long and had 14.9-24 sized standard front tyres, a 258-centimetre wheelbase, and a 46-centimetre front axle clearance.
Both variants were 269 centimetres high (with cab), used rear tyres that were sized 16.9-38, and had front tread ranging from 152 to 223 centimetres and rear tread from 152 to 254 centimetres.
To this day, many farmers still swear by the Case IH 5130 tractor. Because of its flexibility, this machine can be used in almost every daily task.
