The Fiat 540 tractor was built from 1973 to 1978. Its design was an evolution from the 480 and 500 models. It was equipped with a 2.6-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine that can give 54 horsepower at 2600 rated RPM and had a fuel capacity of 54.1 litres. This engine’s bore/stroke measured at 100 by 110 millimetres.
This tractor was fitted with eight forward and two reverse gears. Its three-point hitch can lift objects weighing up to 1,549 kilogrammes thanks to its 540 rear RPM. Its hydraulics system gave a pump flow of 23.5 litres per minute.
The Fiat 540 was available in two-wheel- (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) and thus can handle rough terrain. The 2WD weighed 2,100 kg and had front tyres sized 7.50-16, while the 4WD weighed 2,350 kg and had 9.50-20 sized tyres. Both variants had 195-centimetre wheelbase and 12.4-32 sized rear tyres. They are both 309 centimetres long.
Despite its age, Fiat 540 tractors are still used in farms today, though they may no longer have their original parts. Some farmers equip their tractors with power harrows to efficiently create seedbeds.
