Overview & History
The Case IH 7130 tractor was built in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. It was launched in 1987 and discontinued in 1993. Part of the first line of tractors under the iconic Magnum series, it had a PTO rating of 170 hp. This row-crop tractor was last sold for US$ 73,200 in its last year of production and was replaced by the Case IH 7230.
The engine that powered this tractor was an 8.3-litre, six-cylinder CDC diesel engine with a 114-millimetre bore and 135-millimetre stroke. It had 16.5:1 compression and ran at 2200 rated RPM. This engine featured a liquid-cooled vertical inline, a viscous fan cooling system, and a dual paper element air cleaner. Its standard pre-heating component was an ether starting aid, but block heater and oil pan heater were also available as options.
The 7130’s engine had a 20-litre oil capacity, 28-litre coolant capacity, and 360-litre fuel capacity. The engine oil needed to be changed every 250 hours of operation.
This tractor’s rear hitch was type III/IIIN and controlled using an electronic lower link. Its lift capacity rating was 4,218 kilogrammes. As for rear power take-off (PTO), it was an independent type that ran at 1000 RPM and was fitted with a wet disc clutch.
The 7130 had two transmission options: the standard was an 18-speed full powershift, with 18 forward and two reverse gears. It was operated with a single right-hand control lever. Beginning with the 1990 model year, Case IH added two more reverse gears to the system. Meanwhile, the optional transmission was a 24-speed powershift with creeper range, which added six forward gears and one reverse to the existing system.
The 7130 tractor was either a 4×2 2WD or a 4×4 MFWD 4WD. It featured hydrostatic power steering and differential hydraulic wet disc brakes. It was equipped with an air-conditioned Silent Guardian II Cab. A radio/tape deck inside the cab was offered as an option.
The hydraulics system in this tractor was a closed centre pressure flow compensated type with two to four valves and 191-litre capacity. At 2600 psi, it can give a pump flow of 83 litres per minute.
As for electricals, the 7130 had negative ground and 110 charging amps. It had an alternator charging system and two 12-volt, 950-CCA batteries.
The 2WD variant was 486 centimetres long and 303 centimetres high. It used 14L-16.1 sized front tyres. It had 57-centimetre front axle clearance and 152-to-218-centimetre front tread. Meanwhile, the 4WD model was 504 centimetres long and 300 centimetres high. Its front axle clearance measured 44 centimetres and the front tread ranged from 152 to 241 centimetres.
Both variants’ standard rear tyres were sized 18.4R42. They had a wheelbase of 300 centimetres, drawbar clearance of 42 centimetres, and a rear axle measuring 101 by 2,895 millimetres. Their rear tread ranged from 152 to 322 centimetres.
If there’s one word to describe the Case IH 7130 tractor, it would be “bulletproof”, as many farmers have used it for over 7,000 hours without encountering any issues. The cab is also comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and offers better visibility.
