Overview & History
A follow-up to the iconic TE20, the Ferguson TEA20 was built in Coventry, England from 1948 to 1956. The main difference from its predecessor was the Standard Motor Company petrol engine it was fitted with, whereas the TE20 had a Continental engine.
Originally, the TEA20 was equipped with an 80-mm bore, 1.9-litre Standard engine. But from 1951 until the model was discontinued, it had an 85-mm bore, 2.1-litre engine built by the same manufacturer, and increased the tractor’s engine power to 28 hp. The tractor has a fuel capacity of 30.3 litres.
Aside from the bore/stroke ratio, displacement, and power, both engines are pretty much the same: they were fueled by petrol and had four cylinders and liquid cooling. Both starters were powered by 6 volts, though later on the newer engine featured a 12-volt starter.
The TEA20 was available in four variants: the TEC20, which had a narrow wheelbase; the TED20, which was equipped with vapourising oil engine; the TEE20, which both had narrow wheelbase and vapourising oil engine; and the TEK20, which was built for vineyard applications.
Just like the previous model, the TEA20 has an unsynchronised gear-type transmission, with four forward gears and one reverse. It was only available in 4×2 two-wheel drive, has manual steering, differential mechanical shoe brake, and an open operator station for its cab.
Its tyres are sized 4×19 at the front and 10×28 at the rear. Its wheelbase measures at 177 cm. It is 292 cm long, 162 cm wide, and 132 cm high, with a ground clearance of 33 cm. Its operating weight is at 1,134 kg. Lastly, its front tread measures from 121 to 203 inches while the rear tread measures from 121 to 193 cm depending on the variant.
The 28-hp Ferguson TEA20 was colloquially known as “Ferguson 28” in Australia and New Zealand and remains to be a beloved tractor among farmers.
