Overview & History
Built from 1965 to 1968, the Fiat 415 Tractor was part of the automaker’s Diamante series, which were the series of tractors that firmly consolidated Fiat’s position in the European market. It was one of the first tractors to have synchronised speeds, differential lock, and the AMPLICUPLE device, which is automatically engaged through a lever on the driver’s left side.
Through an arrangement between Fiat and Cockshutt Farm Equipment in Ontario, Canada, the Fiat 415 became integrated to the Oliver lineup. It was renamed Oliver 1250, given new white grilles and wheels as well as body paint with the company’s signature green colour.
The engine used in the Fiat 415 was a 4-cylinder diesel, almost 139 cubic-inch unit, with a liquid cooling system. Compared to other tractors with 3-cylinder engines, the 415 is more refined and overall balanced. Its bore and stroke was roughly 3 x 4 inches, giving the tractor a good breathing capacity to make it more efficient. Meanwhile, the compression ratio is 21.5:1, allowing the engine to extract more energy and helping make the 415 more efficient.
The engine also has a rated 2500 RPM. It uses a firing order of 1-3-4-2, which is common among 4-cylinder engines. The engine also has a 24v starter motor, an 8.25 qts (7.8 L) oil capacity, and produces 44 hp (32.8 kW).
With a 13.2-gallon (50 L) fuel capacity, farmers can get a lot of work done before needing to refuel it.
The 415’s transmission is a 6-speed forward, 2-speed reverse unit. This unit takes up less engine space, allowing Fiat to focus on making the engine more powerful and efficient.
It has a live rear PTO that can run at 540 RPM. This means the clutch can be depressed halfway in, and the PTO will continue to spin under load even though the tractor’s transmission has stopped.
Overall, the Fiat 415 is an efficient tractor that works best in small- to medium-sized farms. One of the few complaints about this machinery is that it needs a front-end loader.
