Overview & History
The Fiat 60-90 tractor was part of the historic 90 series, which came out with a huge number of models subdivided into two categories: medium-to-low- and high-powered, with the 60-90 belonging to the former. Manufactured in 1984 and discontinued in 1992, this utility tractor came after the 55-90 and before the 65-90. It was available in two variants: the Fiat 60-90, which was a two-wheel-drive (2WD), and the Fiat 60-90DT, which came in four-wheel-drive (4WD).
This tractor was fitted with a 2.9-litre, 3-cylinder Fiat diesel engine which had a 93.1-litre fuel capacity and can run 60 hp at 2500 rated RPM. This engine’s bore/stroke measured at 104 by 115 millimetres. It also had an oil bath air cleaner and equipped the 60-90 with an electric starter type.
The 60-90’s other features included planetary final drive, hydraulic rear differential lock, power steering, and hydraulic wet disc brakes. It also had a cab with a heater as a standard feature.
As for power, this tractor can lift objects weighing 2,899 kilogrammes. Its independent rear PTO can run 540 at 2200 engine RPM or 1000 at 2375 engine RPM.
The transmission had a 280-millimetre dry disc clutch and three different types. The first system was a basic system that had 12 forward and four reverse gears. The gears were laid out so that four of the forward gears were in each of the three ranges (low, medium, and high) and then there’s the reverse range with all of the reverse gears.
The second transmission system was a shuttle type with 12 forward and reverse gears. With this transmission, there were four gears in each of the three ranges (low, medium, and high) with a left-hand shuttle. The third type was a creeper with 20 forward and 8 reverse gears. Here, an additional two forward and one reverse creeper ranges were added to the basic transmission.
The 2WD variant had a wheelbase measuring 223 centimetres and 7.50-16 front tyre size. It weighed 3,010 kilogrammes and the front tread ranged from 139 to 189 centimetres. Meanwhile, the 4WD had a wheelbase of 219 centimetres and its front tyres were sized 11.2-24. It weighed 3,480 kilogrammes and its front tread measured from 154 to 187 centimetres.
Both variants’ rear tyres were sized 16.9-30 standard but can also fit size 13.6-36. They were 341 centimetres long and 252 centimetres high. Both of their rear treads measured from 150 to 199 centimetres.
The Fiat 60-90 tractor is a medium-powered tractor that can perform challenging tasks longer and more frequently compared to smaller machines.
