Overview & History
Built from 1964 to 1979 in Coventry, England the Massey Ferguson 135 (MF135) was the first model in the MF100 range and was a popular model during its time. It was considered to be modern compared to other tractors in the market and can still meet farmers’ needs to this day.
It was equipped with either a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder Continental gasoline engine or a 2.5-litre, 3-cylinder Perkins diesel or gasoline engine. However, MF135 tractors with a Perkins engine are more sought-out today as they’re considered to be fuel-efficient, reliable, and can run smoothly. Both engines give 45.5 hp, which is a lot of power to take on daily farm tasks. It originally had a fuel capacity of 38.6 litres, but later models were given 47.7 litres.
The early models were fitted with a six-speed transmission, but later on, they had eight-speed as a standard with multi-power as an option. The multi-power transmission gives a clutchless power hitch from high/direct drive to lower speed, which provides more torque. Meanwhile, its hydraulics system has a capacity of 30.3 litres, with a pump flow of 17 litres per minute.
With a 3-point hitch rear type I, the MF135 can lift up to 1,292 kg. Its rear can do 540 at 1700 RPM. It was available in 4×2 two-wheel-drive chassis. It came with manual steering, mechanical drum brakes, and an open operator station as standard features. But it also had a lot of options such as live power, power steering, a quick detach cab, and even spin-out rims.
Dubbed by enthusiasts as one of, if not the best tractor Massey Ferguson has ever made, it is also considered to be the best value in the 30- to 40-hp range. The MF135 is a perfect mix of functionality, dependability, and affordability, and it will keep working for as long as there’s fuel, water, and oil in its engine. It has a simple and straightforward design and with no electronics involved, so repairs are easy for as long as you have the correct parts.
